Ted Kennedy was passionate about the things he believed. I did not agree with him on virtually any issue, but I respected his desire to implement ideas which he believed would help his nation.
While his death should not cause anyone to change political positions, we all would do well to be as passionate about those things we care deeply about as he was.
My prayers are with the Kennedy family and friends.
As many liberals wasted no time in damning Falwell when he died, I am sure that neocons will, both rightly and wrongly, come out to clarify that Ted Kennnedy's legacy wasn't all good.
With that in mind, enjoy Kennedy leaves 'sad legacy' on traditional values.
Notice the lack of vitriol and namecalling, and the presences of respectful critique.
Why do I bring this up? Because I think that the 'hate' which liberals misdiagnose on the right lives in much greater abundance in their own camp. Does making this statement get us anywhere? Probably not, but I bring it up because, while conservatives accuse liberals of being morally and intellectually WRONG, liberals more often accuse the right of being evil and hateful, as I've discussed in What is Hate? and Don't agree with liberal politics? Hateful!.
Not only are these ad hominem attacks used in place of reasoned argument, as it turns out in real life, it's probably rank hypocrisy and projection! Liberals in real practice are NOT more compassionate or generous, they just think they are, and this is an important fault with their ideology.
Not only that, we argue that liberal social welfare programs that lead to dependence ("the liberal plantation") are not compassionate either – they are the equivalent of picking up your kids socks instead of teaching him to pick up after himself. Real love teaches others to do, rather than infantilzing them and doing for them.
I also started a series examining the data to support or contradict these claims, but did not have time to finish (as with most of my series). See Who's more dumb and evil? Neocons or libs?.
The old liberal lion of the senate is gone.
Ted Kennedy on Republicans and Minimum wage
A tribute.
Leave it to seeker to use Aaron's dignified and compassionate tribute as an opportunity to spray more rage and contempt against his bogeymen, the "liberals." I can't even get mad at him anymore. One can only pity someone so locked into such an extreme viewpoint that his humanity has become seriously compromised.
