I know this sounds very strange, but the new phone system at work provides me great enjoyment. One of the phones in our area sounds like the CTU phones from 24. When I answer that one, I want to say: “Chloe O’Brian: CTU.” I keep looking for “moles” in our office. I’m almost sure everyone else is a terrorist plant.
Another sounds like the phones on The Office, when I pick up that one I’m so tempted to say: “Dunder Mifflin. This is Pam.” Unfortunately, I am able to point out several of the fictional characters from The Office in my own office. I think they changed the place of business to a paper company in PA to protect to innocent here at my work.
Anyway, the new phones are great, even if I can’t figure out how to do anything with the 15,000 new buttons on them.
We use ShoreTel, which are VOIP. The nice thing is that, using the desktop app, you can dial, pickup, etc. without touching your phone. And it's integrated with my outlook contacts, both corporate and personal, so i can just start typing someone's name and it will provide a filtered list.
The down side is that you have to wear the headset, which is not the same as your computer headset. However, when I am listening to music on my headphones, I do get an audio beep telling me that my phone is ringing. Cool.
