Though I am pro death penalty, I would like it very judiciously applied, basically only to first degree murderers. But according to Proposals to execute pedophiles make headway in US, a growing movement is afoot to execute pedophiles. Arguments abound on whether or not the punishment fits the crime, but the growing impatience with soft sentences and high recidivism among sex offenders is driving this legislative push.
Various versions of the "Jessica Law" sprang up all over in the
country, imposing in most cases a minimum 25 year jail sentence and the
wearing of an ankle bracelet for life for raping a child aged 12 or
younger. But in some states, elected officials amended their versions of the
"Jessica Law" by adding the possibility of condemning a pedophile to
death.
Grotesque.
O goodness. That is scary. I am with you on the death penalty being applied to only 1st degree murderers, if it is used at all!
But that is part of our problem… "Easy fix Americans" that is what we are. It is easier to give out death sentences than to actually try to prevent the occurrence of child rape.
Which we could do, if we as a people could start controlling ourselves sexually!!
Ok, I know I am soapboxing a lot lately, sorry. ;)
Statistically, it costs more per prisoner to execute a criminal in the United States than it does to keep that same prisoner in jail for life without parole.
I echo the view that we as a society are just to trigger happy to execute criminals after they do the crime than to do anything to prevent crime or do anything in terms of rehabilitation.

But it's not about cost, it's about recidivism and victims of multiple offenders that end up being DEAD because we let the guy out again.
There is no easy answer for child sex offenders – I still haven't seen the film The Woodsman yet.

Maybe that is the case with you. But as a Conservative, I would think you would be interested in the most effective means of preventing these crimes and incarcerating the offenders.
As a taxpayer, I know that I am most definitely interested in both of those questions.
and by that, I also include the question of cost.

You won't like it. It stars Kevin Bacon… can't be good.
What makes you think I won’t like him? I like Kevin Bacon. Heck, I like anything with bacon.
He was great in Murder in the First, The Air up There, and Mystic River. I never did see Footloose though. Seemed too gay at the time ;).

I wonder where Louis is at a time like this? It seems to me a similar comment kicked up a cow puck storm 6 months back.
