Interesting !
I used to believe ,rather foolishly ,that all people thought and questioned things as I did . Until I encountered religion ,of course.
It`s quite overwhelming to understand that ,once accepted , these beliefs lead to the inability to question outside of the dogmatic thinking that is religious programming.
The divinity of Jesus is obviously one of the three primary tenets of Christian belief. To question that is to knock a leg off the tripod of what it is to be a Trinitarian. That is the danger ,and the blasphemy.
I do however understand the extent of the fiction. So I think that this film shall only lead to deeper investigation by Christians, and that THAT ,is what is truly feared by the deeply infected.
Cineaste, it's not John the Baptist beside Jesus. It is John the apostle – two different people. But several are making that mistake when discussing the movie/book.
Actually what Richard said is why I don't fear DVC. I am glad for the opportunity for people to honestly investigate the claims of Christianity. I want people to dig into the facts and look at what does actually make sense.
It is not enough to do as Cineaste did and say what makes more sense Jesus was a normal human being or God. You must say, according to what can be known about Jesus and what He said, which makes more sense. It may seem semantics, but every claim to be "god" should be treated with skepticism and only regarded as serious if the person backs up that claim with evidence.
In general, it makes more sense for any person to be normal instead of God, but then normal people do not talk as Jesus did. They do not act as He did. After their death, people don't claim the person is actually now alive and give their own lives for that belief. The evidences for Jesus is quite different than any normal person.
Except Elvis!!
Welcome back Aaron. Is Seeker okay? He has not posted anything in 5 days. I have some more comments ready for his next evolution post. Did you see the the DVC yet Aaron? Does it compare well with the book?
I'm not aware of any people that have died for their belief that Elvis was alive. And unlike Jesus, it certainly wasn't those closest to him. I just heard his step-brother/road manager speak this week.
I'm not sure where Seeker is, he emailed me a topic idea from you last week and said that he wouldn't be able to get to it because he was busy. I was hoping he would post a good bit, because I have been (and will be) away from the computer.
As to having seen the movie – nope. I will probably wait until it comes out on DVD. As I said, I don't get to the theaters often. (In college I used to go 4 or 5 times a month) Kids kinda hinder that.
The two movies I want to see, but will probably be disappointed in are X-Men 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 2. I may get to see one (maybe both if I'm lucky) in the theater.
I've been out on paternity leave – my new son is much noisier than my daughter was, and no one is sleeping around here.
Well congratulations! I did not know that.
Sons are loud. Two are even loudier.
Congratulations Seeker :) Aaron, I was not expecting you to take Elvis seriously. I was joking. Don't forget to rent Ponette from Netflix. You won't be disappointed.
