Even though, he said it would take a “miracle” for him to win, Dr. Frank Page was elected the president of the Southern Baptist Convention. The pastor of Taylors First Baptist in Taylors, SC, defeated two higher-profile candidates in the first highly contested presidential race since 1994.
Several issues led to Page’s election, including giving to mission organizations, denominational accountability, and, believe it or not, blogging. In his statement to the media after his election, Page spoke about some of the changes he wants to make. “I believe in the Word of God,” he said. “I am just not mad about it. Too long Baptists have been known for what we are against. Please let us tell you what we are for.”
