South Carolina’s Board of Education rejected the Education Oversight Committee’s high school biology educational standard. The EOC’s recommendation asked students to understand evolution “by using data from a variety of scientific sources to investigate and critically analyze aspects of evolutionary theory.”

SC Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum called the recommendation “a ploy to confuse the issue of evolution so that ultimately evolution won’t be taught.”

In other news, politicians are working on a recommendation that would give them the same powers as scientists and essentially outlaw “critical analysis” of their work as well. The politicians maintain that if any other ideas were credible, they would have already thought of them. They also hold that the uneducated public is too ignorant to possibly understand the complex issues they face on a daily basis.
